Bike Lanes Joel Mitchell January 30, 2020 Over the last year or so, Victoria’s city staff have been collecting feedback from various activities regarding the future of Victoria’s bike lanes and are now ready to move forward with improvements. According to information posted to the city of Victoria’s website, the next phase of development can move forward this year, with a focus on connecting the city’s downtown areas with residential neighbourhoods, employment centers, schools, parks, and playgrounds. Specific areas to be improved upon in 2020 include Kings-Haultain Corridor, Government Street North, Richardson Street and Kimta Road. However, are more biking lanes really necessary for the city’s already crowded streets? Joel Mitchell January 15 th , 2020 Jeff Atwood opens his article by introducing us to the idea that the number of posts someone makes online doesn’t equate an understanding of their topics, nor does he express that the more people talk, the more intelligent that makes them. He then continues into his main point suggesting that we spend too much time talking and not enough time educating ourselves. He specifically states we should talk less and read more and furthers his belief by saying “the best conversations are with people who spend most of their time listening”. He uses two experiments conducted online to prove his points: the Ars Banana experiment which introduced the idea that at least 90% of their readers wouldn’t make it to the 7 th paragraph of their article, and the Slate Experiment which provided evidence that people typically only read 50% of articles posted.
